Prague - The Academy of Fine Arts (AVU) has gained a new logo. A year before the 220th anniversary of its founding, it is departing from the visual identity given to the school by its then-rector Milan Knížák in the early 1990s.

The winning design in the competition came from the studio 20YY Designers, which comprises Petr Bosák, Robert Jansa, and Adam Macháček. The new logo consists of just three letters that form the abbreviation of the school's name; it is adorned with small white hearts on the surface of the letters. According to the school's rector Tomáš Vaněk, they are meant to refer to freedom of thought and feeling.

The hearts in the logo also connect to the previous one, which, alongside the inscription Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, featured a Czech lion used in heraldry, whose body was also covered with white hearts. The graphic designers created an entirely new font for the new logo and named it AVU Variable. It is based on a classic grotesque typeface, that is, a sans-serif font, whose history roughly coincides with the existence of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
