The bank of the Elbe in Kolín wants the city to revitalize it with a pier and leisure steps

Kolín - Kolín wants to build a set of steps and a pier near the Elbe, close to the dock for small vessels. They aim to revitalize the riverbank on the Zálabí side and provide a space for relaxation and leisure activities. The city announced this week a tender for the project documentation. If everything goes according to plan, construction could start this year, said Kolín's mayor Michael Kašpar (Change for Kolín) to reporters.

"We would like it to be easy to access the water, so people can sit or lie down and relax there," Kašpar said. The city prefers wood as the material, but designers can suggest other solutions. The tender documentation includes examples of steps and a pier from Běchovice for inspiration. The costs are not yet known.

The designer will need to reach an agreement with the Elbe River Basin Authority. "That shouldn't be a problem because it is not in the shipping corridor and is a little distance from the dock for small vessels," Kašpar added.

The city has already leased a portion of the land near the planned pier for the construction of a bistro, and according to Kašpar, it could be built this year.
