A replica of the cubist lamp by German-Brod native architect Emil Králíček was unveiled on Friday, September 14, at the construction school campus in Havlíčkův Brod. This is the third project by students of the Secondary Industrial School of Construction, named after Stanislav Bechyňa, in Havlíčkův Brod, during which they created an artistic work from concrete. In 2006, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of journalist Karel Havlíček Borovský on October 31, a monument called Havlíček's Hyde Park was unveiled on the banks of the Sázava River according to the design of artist Radomír Dvořák. The same author was also involved three years later in creating a concrete sculpture entitled Tribute to Stanislav Bechyňa, which decorates the entrance to the construction school in the town. Currently, former students of the school Lenka Novotná, Filip Med, and Jan Hunal, under the guidance of teacher Marie Nosková, completed a replica of the cubist lantern, the original of which stands in Jungmann Square in Prague and was created as part of a project for Adam's pharmacy at Wenceslas Square. Architect Emil Králíček was born in Německý Brod on October 11, 1877, and died in 1930 in Prague. “For a long time, it was not known that the author of the lantern was indeed Emil Králíček; definitive confirmation came only from an exhibition curated by architect Zdeněk Lukeš at the beginning of the twenty-first century,” shared one of the lesser-known facts during the ceremonial unveiling, Marie Nosková. The ceremonial unveiling was attended not only by the authors, representatives of the school and its founder, and sponsors, but also by leading Czech architecture expert Zdeněk Lukeš, who delivered a lecture on Czech cubism after the unveiling. “Králíček's work is the first cubist lantern, and that is what makes it unique. I am glad that its very faithful copy is now also in the hometown of this significant Czech architect of Art Nouveau and Cubism,” concluded Zdeněk Lukeš.
