Prague - This year's Day of Architecture is heading to nearly a hundred cities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and from October 1 to 7, its organizers will once again try to present a new view of architecture to the public. Visitors can look forward to tours of buildings that are otherwise inaccessible, as well as walks through well-known and unknown places with explanations from experts. The Day of Architecture invites interested parties to over 350 events, Anna Vašátková informed ČTK on behalf of the organizers today.
Among the events are the discovery of folk architecture in Bublava, the exploration of wine cellars in Čejkovice, a walk through 90s architecture in Jablonec nad Nisou, the charm of the Baťa legacy in Partizánske, reminiscing about disappeared Prague cinemas and music clubs, a cycling trip with architects in Brno, or an architectural scavenger hunt for both adults and children in Český Krumlov.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, this year's program features the theme of free architecture as a main line. The walks will thus showcase not only the positive direction of post-revolution architecture but also the repetition of then-survived patterns from Western society, such as the construction of satellite suburbs.
Part of the free building that influenced the character of the city were also the constructions of shopping centers, and some of these will be the focus of this year's Day of Architecture. After the revolution, many monuments and memorials were also created, and thematic walks will be dedicated to them, with several focusing on the architecture surrounding Prague's National Boulevard, the site of the events of 1989.
The second thematic line celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the influential Weimar Bauhaus school. In Prague, for example, the Glass Palace in Prague 6 will be opened, including its original staircase, atrium, and the roof with a view of the Castle, which originally housed sun baths with a bar.
The Day of Architecture will once again feature the film festival Film and Architecture, which will take place in Prague and ten other cities. It will primarily focus on the main themes of the festival. A detailed program of the festival in individual cities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia is available at www.denarchitektury.cz.
