The Transport Construction of the Year 2007 is the highway bridge over the Odra

Prague - The Transport Construction of the Year 2007 is the bridge over the Odra River and the Antošovické Lake on the D47 highway. The expert jury appreciated the technical difficulty of the work, which holds more than 2000 cables with a total length of 136 kilometers. This was announced today by Markéta Macounová from the organizing company ABF. The competition was announced for the fifth time by the Ministry of Transport and the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
    The 606-meter-long bridge was characterized by the jury as "the most complex bridge structure realized on the D47 highway." The main span of the bridge over the Odra measures 105 meters and is suspended from a 50-meter-tall reinforced concrete pylon. The bridge was constructed by Skanska DS according to the project of the architectural office Stránský, Hustý and partners.
    Other constructions were also awarded in the competition. For example, the ABF company awarded an honorable mention to the transport and commercial center Mercury in České Budějovice, which has a bus station on its roof, the jury awarded an honorable mention to the suspension bridge over the Elbe near Nymburk, and the minister's award went to the electrification of the railway line between the stations Ostrava hl.n. and Ostrava-Kunčice.
    The jury of the competition includes representatives of the Ministry of Transport, the transport fund, experts from transport universities, and architects. Among other things, the significance of the construction for transportation safety or the integration of the construction into the surrounding environment is evaluated. Previous winners include, for example, Terminal No. 2 at Prague Airport, the road bypass of Ostrov nad Ohří, or the new line between Zábřeh na Moravě and Krasíkov.
