Prague - Passengers using the Prague metro will not be able to exit from the metro station B Anděl towards Na Knížecí from November this year until July next year. The Public Transport Company (DPP) will modernize the lobby, pedestrian passage, and replace escalators at the station. Costs are estimated at 249 million crowns. DPP spokesperson Aneta Řehková announced this today. The work will be carried out by a consortium of Hochtief and Syner. DPP previously renovated the lobby and replaced the escalators leading to the intersection at Anděl.
The renovation of the lobby will follow the reconstruction of the tram track on Nádražní Street, which will begin on March 14 and last until the end of October. "We expect to start working on the lobby this November and plan to reopen it in July next year. If we manage to significantly shorten the work on Nádražní Street, we will also start the lobby renovation earlier," said DPP General Director Petr Witowski.
The company will replace the escalators at Na Knížecí. The old Soviet three-armed escalators from Petrohrad will be replaced with new ones. DPP will remove the original supporting structures and the internal staircase from the escalator tunnel and will pour new concrete. Workers will remove leakages. The enamel cladding sheets will be refurbished, and those that are damaged will be replaced with new ones.
The renovation will also involve technical and cable spaces, the machine room, street exits, and a freight elevator. New rooms will be created, such as a lighting distribution room or a spare parts storage room for escalators. In the lobby, the company will replace ceilings with new ones, repair the damaged supporting structure, and fix the lighting. Stone cladding and flooring will be cleaned and restored, along with some of the canopies of the exits.
The exit to Na Knížecí will be closed throughout the modernization of the lobby. Passengers will need to exit toward the intersection at Anděl. This exit was reconstructed by DPP in 2017 and 2018.
