edit!

Vítězslav Danda is among the founders of the successful architectural studio Edit!. It has numerous successful projects behind it, and its members are considered by many experts to be some of the most talented representatives in their field. You can now encounter their work at festivals, as they designed the Becher Zone, which travels to music and foodie events during the summer.

The final design of the Becher Zone reflects a very interesting theme - recycling. While chef Daniel Gonzalez prepares his food on edible plates to minimize waste, and bartenders mix drinks in cups made of recycled paper, the architects at Edit! worked with already used materials.

“The main trick was that we used old shipping containers. They are great because they can be easily loaded and transported anywhere. At the same time, they fit into the theme of recycling - we deliberately sourced older pieces.”

Global Trend
How did Vítězslav Danda get inspired by Becherovka itself? “It is an incredibly ecological drink. There is not a single additive in it. In fact, it could be said that it is organic. Such a bio liqueur,” he smiles. “Additionally, 97% of the waste generated in the production of the liqueur is utilized. This completely thrilled us. And because it is currently trendy to be responsible for one's surroundings, everything fit together perfectly, and through the whole concept, we wanted to convey this information to people.”

Thus, the entire project excellently captures and reflects a global trend, the main theme of which is indeed ecology and recycling. “The topic is really current. The construction industry is one of the largest polluters of nature in the world. The production of major construction materials, such as cement, iron, aluminum, ceramics..., requires a huge amount of energy, the production of which is an ecological burden. And I’m not even talking about products from the field of construction chemistry and plastics...” the architect elaborated, adding in one breath that although he is interested in the issue, he is not an active environmentalist himself; he just tries to live and create things in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

To festivals in a container
What comes to mind when you mention Becherovka? Very likely, your thoughts will include Karlovy Vary. “We all know that Becherovka is from Karlovy Vary, and one of the typical symbols of the city is the colonnade. Therefore, we incorporated this element into the entire design and cut arches into the containers. We essentially created the world’s first mobile colonnade,” the architect laughs. “We decided to bring Karlovy Vary to Prague (to the Metronome Festival, note from the editor), to Ostrava (to Colours of Ostrava), and anywhere else Becherovka wants to go.”
