Bruntál – The façade of the theater in Bruntál will again take on a neo-Renaissance appearance. The renovation of the building's exterior will begin in mid-May. It will take at least eight months and will cost almost 33 million crowns. Jiří Ondrášek, spokesperson for the Bruntál town hall, told ČTK today. In the coming days, the city hopes to sign a contract with the winning construction company.

"According to current projections, work could begin in the second half of May. Although, according to the draft contract, it is expected to last eight months, it is anticipated that due to the climatic conditions, it might be extended until the spring of next year," he said.

He added that it will be a challenging construction project. The plan involves restoring the original neo-Renaissance features of the theater's façade with corresponding architectural elements, including the restoration of arched window openings. Craftsmen will replace window and door fittings. The current sandstone base will be replaced with a new one made of Silesian granite. The color of the façades will be unified in white. The area in front of the theater entrance will also undergo significant modifications.

"We are facing a demanding period, during which not only will the theater be completely closed for several months, but construction work will also affect the immediate surroundings. However, I believe that in the end, both theater enthusiasts and everyone who appreciates the new appearance of the theater will be satisfied," added Deputy Mayor Petr Rys (Bruntál 2022).

The theater building was constructed as a community house in 1896 by the Society of Catholic Journeymen based on a design by Hans Grubner. It featured a hall for 450 people. Over the years, the name of the building changed frequently. The Catholic house was succeeded by the Social House, and later in the 1950s, the theater was named the District House of Education. In 1953, a theater ensemble was formed in the building, and in 1965 it was renamed again. This time to the Municipal Theater. Currently, it does not serve any permanent ensemble. Touring theater companies perform there.
