Heřmanův Městec

Heřmanův Městec - Heřmanův Městec wants to gradually renovate the interior of the sokolovna, which it acquired years ago. The outer part of the building from the 1930s has already been reconstructed. Renovations are planned over several years, said Mayor Josef Kozel to ČTK.

"The interior is original from the time the building was constructed. We will have to completely replace the electrical installations, completely renew the stage, or upgrade the acoustic elements for concerts," Kozel stated.

The estimated costs of up to 20 million crowns exceed the capacity of a single annual budget of the city. Therefore, the city hall will try to divide the repairs into multiple phases, but the operation of the sokolovna should be restricted as little as possible.

The city completely acquired the building in 2015 from TJ Sokol Heřmanův Městec, of which it previously owned 51 percent. For about ten million crowns, it had the windows replaced, the utilities updated, and the entire building insulated.

The sokolovna was completed in 1929, and in the 1950s, public political trials with alleged enemies of the communist regime also took place there. It has a large hall with a stage and a balcony, with a total capacity of up to 400 seated or 600 standing. It is connected to a smaller hall, and there is a restaurant in the basement of the building.
