Nový Bor - A survey has been prepared in Nový Bor, in the Českolipsko region, for the planned reconstruction of the community center. The town hall is preparing not only for the modernization of the building itself and its facilities but also for the transformation of the surroundings of the community center, and is therefore trying to involve the public as much as possible in the project's preparation. In March and April, workshops were held with architects from the Mjölk studio, and for June, the town hall is planning a public discussion of the workshop results and the survey, stated town hall spokesperson Jiří Lebiš on the website.
The community center, built in the 1930s, needs extensive renovation. The building, which features a gym, fitness room, table tennis room, bowling alley, volleyball, footvolley, and tennis courts covering an area of 7,361 square meters, was transferred to the city from TJ Jiskra Nový Bor free of charge at the end of 2021. Three years ago, the city repaired the roof and ceiling of the second floor, which were in a state of emergency. This cost the town hall 12 million CZK. However, the area needs a fundamental modernization.
"The goal now is to create a clear assignment by the end of summer, which will determine the future direction of the community center's transformation," said Mayor Jaromír Dvořák (Starostové pro Liberecký kraj). Therefore, the town hall is gradually collecting suggestions from the public, experts, and local organizations so that the future shape of the area reflects the real needs of the city. "We want to hear people's opinions before the actual proposal is created. The community center has great symbolic and practical significance for Nový Bor, and it is important that its future form meets the needs of its residents," the mayor added.
The city management decided to supplement the workshops with a survey, which is primarily intended for those who have not yet been able to participate in the discussion. The aim is to obtain answers to some questions that are crucial for the architectural study's assignment. In the survey, the city is asking, for example, about the use of the area around the community center - whether there should be a public park or a parking lot, whether to keep the garden by the restaurant, and also wants to find out what equipment in the community center is important to visitors or how to deal with the bowling alley, which is in very poor technical condition.
Three years ago, the town hall organized the first survey regarding the use of the community center, which involved 985 people, 95 percent of whom agreed that the community center should serve as a cultural house. Nearly half would welcome an ice rink, and people also expressed support for preserving the volleyball court, restaurant, and gym. "The community center should remain a base for sports, but at the same time become a place for culture, socializing, and leisure activities for all generations. The goal is to find a balance so that the entire area functions and is lively throughout the day," added Erika Štorchová from the city's development department.
