The book Reissig's Villa in Brno and the Reform of the Family House After 1900 will be presented at the Austrian Cultural Forum

On Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at 6 PM, the book Reissig's Villa in Brno and the Reform of the Family House After 1900 will be presented at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague.

The book will be presented by its author, Jindřich Vybíral.

The villa of lawyer Karel Reissig in Brno from the years 1901-02 is the first and probably most significant realization of Viennese architect Leopold Bauer (1872-1938), who was one of the protagonists of modern architecture in Central Europe at the beginning of his career, but later denied his original principles and shifted to the positions of new historicism. At the time of its inception, the villa was referred to as the first modern residential house in the Danube Monarchy.

Jindřich Vybíral studied Czech studies, history, and art history at universities in Ostrava, Brno, and London. He serves as a professor and head of the Department of Art History at the AAAD in Prague. He has published numerous studies on 19th and 20th-century architecture, as well as book publications: The Birth of the Metropolis (1997 and 2003, German 2001), The Century of Heirs and Founders (1999), Czech Architecture on the Threshold of Modernity (2002), and Young Masters (2002, German 2007).

The book was published by Barrister & Principal, and more information can be found on their website www.barrister.cz.
