Velké Meziříčí – The Town Library in Velké Meziříčí, located in the Žďár region, will resume regular operations on Monday, September 14, after renovations. The building has added a tiered lecture hall suitable for theater and a multipurpose hall, while a newly landscaped garden with a gazebo offers another meeting space. The renovation of the building on Poštovní Street cost 90 million crowns, including equipment. The city received a grant of 65 million crowns for the project. At today's ceremony marking the completion of the project, Mayor Alexandros Kaminaras told ČTK.
"This will bring a new beautiful community center to the city," the mayor stated regarding the significance of the investment. The original space of the library has significantly expanded with the addition. "The concept of the design works with the idea that each library department has increased in size according to the needs that were lacking. For example, the children's department is the largest," the mayor explained. He added that a quarter of the premises with a multipurpose hall and facilities will be available for the public to rent for private events. "This is one way for the library to earn some extra income," he said.
The library has a permanent place in a building that was constructed years ago as part of a volunteer initiative. Originally, it was a kindergarten. Due to the current two-year renovation, the library has been temporarily relocated to another building on the same street. It has been settling back into its original location since the spring. It was necessary to move 40,000 to 50,000 book volumes, said library director Ivana Vaňková.
Today's ceremony attracted a large audience. Two more special events will take place at the library before the end of the week. On Friday, there will be night tours for registered visitors, and on Sunday, a neighborhood celebration as a thank you for the inconvenience that neighbors and readers have endured over the past two years.
