Brno – The South Moravian Region has reconstructed the Hapalova Primary School in Brno for more than 200 million crowns, which is designated for children with autism. This was stated today by the region's spokesperson Alena Knotková in a press release. The school has 20 classes, of which 15 are primary school classes, three are kindergarten classes, and two are practical schools.
The region fully covered the costs of the reconstruction. "The number of children with autism spectrum disorders has increased sixfold in the last 10 years. Therefore, we needed to increase the capacity of this unique specialized school that allows for individual approaches. We also emphasize methodological support for regular schools, where there are also children with milder forms of autism," said Jiří Nantl (ODS), the deputy governor for education.
The school also includes a special educational center that conducts diagnostics and provides services to people with autism spectrum disorders throughout the South Moravian Region. "Services are provided by special educators, psychologists, and social administrative workers," Knotková stated.
The South Moravian Region operates almost 200 subsidized organizations in education. Of these, about 70 are secondary schools including gymnasiums, but it also includes elementary art schools and special schools.
