Krnov - The Krnov City Hall will pay 25 million crowns for the development of project documentation for the construction of new municipal baths. The money will be gradually drawn from the city budget by its management until 2025. The actual construction is expected to start no later than 2026. The city spokesperson Dita Círová informed ČTK about this today. The total cost of the project will be around 300 million crowns. The construction will follow a design that originated from an architectural study.
"In accordance with the competition conditions of the architectural competition for the design of the new municipal baths in the area of the swimming pool, the winner, the team Aoc architects, will now be invited to submit a proposal to create all the required stages of project documentation and to perform engineering work and author's supervision. If no agreement is reached in negotiations with the winner, we will invite the participant whose design placed second, or possibly third," added Klára Hazuchová, head of the investment and property management department.
However, a modification will have to be made compared to the original proposal. City representatives demand adjustments so that the access areas and parking lots are not located in the second protection zone of the nearby water source. Igor Kovačević from the company that organized the competition stated that this is possible. "The city as an investor can tell the architect what to change and in what form," he said.
The new baths will eventually replace the current baths opened in 1973, whose technological and structural lifespan is nearing its end. The city began addressing the modernization of the baths without success back in the 1990s. In 2017, a feasibility study was prepared that considered the renovation of the old baths or the construction of a new facility. The then council chose a modern, energy-efficient new building located in the area of the outdoor swimming pool as the most suitable option.
The new baths will be created on city-owned land covering a total area of 13,200 square meters. By connecting the existing outdoor swimming pool with the new municipal baths, a sports and relaxation center will be developed that connects to the city's sports infrastructure along Petrovická Street. The municipal baths will include a swimming pool, a relaxation pool, a sauna world, a fitness center, and supplementary services for the listed operations. Parking and traffic connections to the complex are also planned.
