The Luhačovice Spa has renovated the area of the Hydrotherapy Institute and Sun Baths

Luhačovice - The Luhačovice Spa has renovated the area of the Hydrotherapy Institute and the River and Sun Spas. The buildings were designed by Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič and were constructed at the beginning of the last century. The restored area will open at the end of May, Dalibor Chrastina, a representative of the spa, said today to ČTK. An exhibition has also been created to commemorate Jurkovič, who significantly influenced the spa's appearance, and the composer Leoš Janáček, who often visited the Moravian spa.

"The main goal of the restoration of the Hydrotherapy Institute and the River and Sun Spas was to save the exceptional architectural work of Dušan Jurkovič. Guests can already visit the museum exhibition, and we will soon make the entire area accessible. A festive opening of the Sun Season with a program for the public will take place on the last weekend of May," said Jiří Dědek, the general director of the Luhačovice Spa.

The highlight of the main tour route in the Hydrotherapy Institute's exhibition is the restored Jurkovič's Resting Room, furnished with replicas of the original furniture from 1902. "It features artifacts from the original mill, on whose site the Hydrotherapy Institute was built, as well as an authentic model depicting the appearance of the area from 1910. The second floor is dedicated to Leoš Janáček and his works with the possibility of listening to musical excerpts, including a television recording of the Glagolitic Mass. Visitors can freely walk around the monument and stay as long as they like at any location. If interested, it is possible to book a guided tour," said the director of the Sun Spas, Hana Felcmanová.

The former swimming pool with a pool and cabins at the Hydrotherapy Institute functioned until 1995 when it no longer met hygiene regulations. "After the reconstruction, the pool will no longer be used for swimming, but a decorative biotope is being created there," Felcmanová stated.

The Hydrotherapy Institute and the Sun Spas are cultural monuments. "In addition to standard visitor use, the area should provide an ideal background for holding cultural events for adults and children, themed days, and exhibitions. Among other things, we collaborate with the Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín on these," Felcmanová added.

The reconstruction began in 2021, with costs exceeding 150 million crowns, of which about 70 million crowns are European subsidies, and the rest was provided by the Luhačovice Spa company.
