Prague - Today, the Railway Administration is organizing an open construction day for the public at Masaryk Railway Station in Prague. From 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, people will be able to see areas that are usually not accessible. Entry will be allowed to interested parties after prior registration, and the capacity for tours is sold out.
The modernization of Masaryk Railway Station began in January of last year and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027. The original estimated value of the contract was 3.39 billion crowns, which increased to 3.97 billion crowns due to delays in archaeological research.
On Friday, journalists were able to visit the construction site. Builders are currently installing columns for the roofing of the new and existing platforms. They are also laying the foundations for a new platform that will span the station and connect it with Florenc and the main railway station.
In the first part of the guided tour today, interested parties will see the construction of tracks and a new platform. Two tracks and the new platform are expected to be completed this year. After the work is finished, the station will have a total of nine tracks.
In the second part of the tour, visitors will be able to see the newly emerging platform, the size of Old Town Square, which will be above the platforms and connect Na Florenci Street with Opletalova Street. The platform will also feature photovoltaic panels that will supply energy to Masaryk Railway Station and a park from where trains can be observed.
The modernization of Masaryk Railway Station is part of the railway project to the airport and to Kladno. The contractors are the companies Strabag Rail and Strabag.
