Čáslav - A train station building in Čáslav near Kutná Hora, which is more than 150 years old, is set to undergo a complete reconstruction. The historic building, featuring typical elements of railway architecture, will receive modern ticketing facilities and wheelchair access. The contract has been awarded to the company Strabag Rail. The work will cost nearly 40 million crowns and is expected to last until spring of next year, spokesperson for the Rail Administration Nela Eberl Friebová informed ČTK today.

The facade and roof of the building will be renovated. A modern ticketing hall with a cash desk and new public restrooms will be created on the ground floor. Workers will repair commercial spaces, transportation offices, lodgings, and technological rooms throughout the entire building. Adjacent areas will also be modified. On the street side of the building, a wooden shelter will be removed, and the entrance will be wheelchair accessible.

The project also includes the installation of bike boxes and the creation of covered parking for 12 bicycles. In addition, a complete reconstruction of the railway yard is being prepared at the station, including new platforms and an underpass, with work expected to begin in three years.

The station building, located not far from the center, is heavily used not only by passengers from express and local trains on the route from Prague to Havlíčkův Brod but also from the local train to Žleby and Třemošnice. It dates back to 1867 and has preserved the typical style of railway architecture to this day.
