Nightly Hushed Walk and Guided Tour of the Scaleless Fish

A nighttime buzzing walk from Nádražní Street to the Frýdlant railway and a guided tour of Šupináče will take place on May 21, starting at 8:00 PM. We will meet at 8:00 PM in front of the antiquarian bookstore and club Fiducia.

The nighttime buzzing walk led by architectural historian Martin Strakoš will focus on a part of Moravian Ostrava that was, until the early 1990s, designated for comprehensive urban renewal and reconstruction according to late modernist architectural ideas from the 1960s, which were developed and "conserved" throughout the normalization period. We will walk along Nádražní Street past the rescued historicizing, Art Nouveau, and modernist urban houses up to the Janáček Conservatory and the Polish House, the solitary remnants of the original block development. We will stop at the edge of the panel housing estate, which was meant to have a proper continuation towards Stodolní Street. Then we will move to the first hypermarket in Ostrava, Bauhaus, an example of the transfer of peripheral construction to the city center along with all the associated problems. We will take a look at the neighboring listed and deteriorating area of the former municipal slaughterhouse, which illustrates the level of interest and care for the technical heritage of Ostrava. Subsequently, we will immerse ourselves in the environment of the inner-city periphery around Stodolní Street and conclude the walk at a small miracle – an old warehouse destined for demolition, transformed by the Brno team of architects with the poetic name Flying Engineers led by architect Tomáš Havlíček into the impressive headquarters of NOKO reality s.r.o., externally covered with colorful scales and internally providing a pleasant environment for both work and relaxation. Architect Tomáš Havlíček will guide us through the building.

The event is organized by the antiquarian bookstore and club Fiducia in collaboration with NOKO reality, s.r.o., the Flying Engineers studio, and the Šumná města association, as part of the Ostrava Museum Night.
