Brno – The Public Defender of Rights has updated their web guide for building a family house Domek polopatě. In new audio recordings based on practical cases, the ombudsman explains problematic topics. The Office of the Public Defender of Rights informed about this on their website today. The ombudsman's project regarding construction has been operational since 2019. It helps people navigate what needs to be arranged concerning construction and which authorities to communicate with.

The Domek polopatě website is based on topics that complainants most frequently address to the ombudsman. According to them, it primarily deals with issues such as the placement and permitting of buildings, as well as the removal of illegal constructions. The website shows what needs to be arranged during construction, which authorities to communicate with, and whom to turn to. Interested parties will also learn how to handle situations when they disagree with the authority's actions.

Topics on the website are chronologically divided according to when the individual will address them during house construction. "For each topic, we highlighted the most important advice that needs to be kept in mind or that can significantly ease the entire process. We also emphasized which authority people will be dealing with for a given task, who can help them with it, and what the most important deadlines are that need to be adhered to," said Michaela Vaisová, a public relations officer, in a press release.

According to her, the office updates and supplements the information. New short audio recordings address cases the ombudsman has dealt with in the past – according to the office, these can inspire builders or alert them to potential pitfalls. "Builders can save themselves a lot of difficulties if they consider their construction from another perspective that they might not have thought of otherwise," Vaisová stated. Subtitles are also included so that people with hearing impairments have access to the audio recordings.

Construction is the second most common area, after social issues, that occupies the ombudsman. The office receives several hundred suggestions on this topic each year. People often point out, for example, delays in offices and the associated unreasonable prolongation of proceedings. Another common area includes unauthorized constructions, such as fencing, gazebos, or parking areas.
