Slaný - A large-scale renovation of the Slaný district house, which is a protected heritage site, could begin next year. A cultural center, including a library, is to be created within it. The city already has a favorable opinion for European funding, and final approval of the amount is expected by the end of this year. It could receive up to 130 million crowns. Approximately another 20 to 30 million crowns would be covered from the budget, said Slaný mayor Martin Hrabánek (ODS) today to ČTK.

"We are currently finalizing the interior designs," Hrabánek stated. As soon as the city has the complete project finished, it intends to announce a tender for the company that will carry out the renovation. However, the city management will condition the start of construction on the allocation of the grant in the tender specifications.

After the renovation, the house will also serve as a community center. It will contain spaces for seminars, as well as a hall for ceremonial events.

The Neo-Renaissance building of the Slaný district house, constructed in 1902, stands at the corner of Dr. E. Beneš and Šultysova streets. It was designed by architect Jan Vejrych. The district presidency of Slaný was located in the building until 1918. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia, the district office of the political district of Slaný and later the office of the same-name administrative district operated here. At the end of the 20th century, the Czech Post also temporarily operated in the building during the renovation of its premises.
