Pardubice - Pardubice will complete the project of the Memorial Zámeček. The city council today approved an investment of 33 million crowns, which is an increase of nine million crowns compared to the original plans. The memorial will commemorate the victims of the Heydrichiad.

"Prices have gone up, the prices of many professions," said Deputy Mayor Jakub Rychtecký (ČSSD). For example, audio-visual technology has become more expensive, there will be more exhibits that require a gentle, climate-controlled environment, he added.

The memorial is located at the site of a former training shooting range of the Reserve Police Regiment Böhmen. The Germans shot 194 people there from June 3 to July 9, 1942. Since 1949, there has been a memorial at the execution site.

The monument will remain on site. The city will demolish the building that serves as a facility and the fencing. The exhibition will be created underground.

"The construction is technologically demanding. It is underground, many problems had to be resolved. We fine-tuned it to make the operation more economical," said Mayor Martin Charvát (ANO).

The city expects that the subsidies and state contributions will exceed 21 million crowns, with the remainder being covered by its budget. The work is expected to be completed by May 2021.
