Písek - After 12 years, the renovation of the ring road around the historic core of Písek has been completed. The total cost for the modifications around the center amounted to 105 million crowns, with approximately 40 percent financed by the city through various subsidy funds. Písek is also planning to renovate the historic core itself in the future. This will involve the Great and Alšovo square and the surrounding streets. Representatives of the city told these details to journalists today.
The renovation of the ring was completed with the modification of part of Bakalář. The city spent 13 million crowns to improve the area between the dean's church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the streets Chelčického and Budovcova. "This phase involved the modification of the eastern part of the square, a park with an artificial pond, and the area around the monument to the fallen at Melegnana and Solferino. The adjacent street Budovcova was also reconstructed, along with sidewalks, parking spaces, and the bus stop," said Písek's deputy mayor Josef Knot (TOP 09).
The twelve-year reconstruction of the perimeter of the historic center took place in four phases. It included, among other things, the promenade between the stone bridge and the Municipal Power Plant, Komenského street, Fügner square, and the forecourt of Kamenné. "The reconstruction primarily focused on all transportation infrastructure and city parterre including furniture and lighting," said the architect of the city of Písek, Josef Zábranský. According to Rudolf Koraba from the investment and development department of the Písek city hall, the area around the center has significantly improved. Furthermore, the traffic flow through the city center has not been restricted in any way. "Some parking spots have been changed. In some places, we had to eliminate them, and in others, we built new ones. But overall, the number of parking spaces in the center remains practically the same," he said.
