Prague - According to the leader of ANO, Petr Stuchlík, a new so-called residential bridge could be built at the site of the Libeň Bridge in Prague. If he is elected mayor after the elections, he will announce an architectural competition for its design. Stuchlík made this statement today to reporters along with the idea's author, architect Jaromír Pizinger. The Libeň Bridge is in poor condition; it was closed to traffic for a month in January this year and had to be supported. Politicians in Prague are debating whether to demolish it or repair it. Elections are taking place at the beginning of October, with 29 parties and groups running in Prague.

"When I was thinking with friends about how the Libeň Bridge should look, what it actually serves, and what it is, I was pleased that one of my friends came up with the idea that he knows Mr. Architect Pizinger, who dreamed of a residential bridge project years ago,"
said Stuchlík. According to him, the proposal aims to open a discussion about the future structure of Prague. People can view Pizinger’s idea on the website www.novylibenak.cz.

The Libeň Bridge was completed in 1928, and its load-bearing structure has not been repaired even once since then. The authors were architect Pavel Janák and designer František Mencl. Some experts and members of the public lean towards the view that the structure should be protected as a heritage site.

According to Pizinger, both car and tram traffic should be maintained on the bridge, running beneath the new building. The ground floor would have apartments for nurses, teachers, or police officers. The upper floors would contain luxury apartments, the sales of which would partially finance the project. The exact form of the bridge would emerge from the architectural competition announced by the city, according to Stuchlík.

"It is not a project, but a vision. It is my idea that I have created for the drawer. Everyone is discussing whether to demolish the bridge or not, but I don't know if anyone has come up with any alternative. I am just glad that I can present this idea. It is my subjective feeling of what could be there,"
said Pizinger.

Another project that ANO would like to create if they succeed in the elections is a swimming facility on the Vltava River in Podskalí. "Prague residents will be able to swim in the Vltava where it is clean, that is, still below Vyšehrad. It will create a place for community gatherings and easy refreshment," said Stuchlík. The Podskalská náplavka is the most popular and most visited place in the metropolis.

Prague politicians have long disagreed on whether to repair the bridge or replace it with a new one. The April meeting of the city council led to a coalition crisis between ANO and the ČSSD on one side and the Coalition (SZ, KDU-ČSL, STAN), which advocates for the preservation of the bridge, on the other. Residents also protested against the demolition in the past, and the National Heritage Institute opposed it as well.
