Prague - The management of the Exhibition Grounds in Prague 7 will continue repairs of the lower part of the area. This year, they will complete the renovation of the rear part of the former Brussels Pavilion, a bike park will be created, a giant sandbox will be built, and new benches will be added. The renovation of the Spirála Theatre and the Křižík Pavilions is also planned. Tomáš Hübl, Chairman of the Board of the Exhibition Grounds Prague, told ČTK this. At the same time, a new gastro park, grilling area, and parkour playground will officially open to the public on Friday, May 15. Last year, the Exhibition Grounds invested 130 million crowns in repairs.
"We want to offer the possibility of spending the whole day here. When you come, you have facilities, there are toilets, you can eat and drink, children can play, there are drinking fountains and misting areas, and the whole family can have fun,” said Hübl.
On Friday, the gastro center under Marold's panorama will start full operation. The parkour playground will be in operation, and the grilling areas will begin to function. People will be able to reserve electric grills with benches via an app and will pay a hundred crowns for an hour.
One of the new features will be the bike park in the rear part along the railway embankment. It will be created on former fill areas. According to Hübl, the removal and disposal of these would be too costly; therefore, they will be utilized, and the track will be built on them. Next to it will be a new lookout tower with lockers or a bike repair station. "Within a month, it should be clad, and it will provide facilities for the bike zone. I hope it will be ready over the summer,” said Hübl.
The rear part of the Brussels Pavilion has not yet been reconstructed, which is in poor condition. The broken tile area will be replaced and unified, and facilities for sports activities will be created, including rentals and social facilities.
The requirement of heritage conservators was to preserve the footprint of the Brussels Pavilion. Its ground plan is marked in the pavement. In one of the former wings, a sandbox will be built, into which sand will be delivered within 14 days, and there will also be playhouses for children. A drinking fountain will also be added around it, and there will be an option to purchase refreshments.
The Exhibition Grounds is also completing an architectural and design plan for the furniture. The area lacks both benches and bins. For now, people will not be able to walk on all the lawns. Some are newly sown. "We still need to sow some more, and we don't want people to trample the newly sown grass,” said Hübl.
In addition to the mentioned investments, the Exhibition Grounds are also expecting so-called major repairs. The renovation of the Bohemia restaurant will be initiated. The contract for the reconstruction of the Křižík Pavilions will be completed, with Pavilion D being the first to be renovated, and soon the city will announce a contract for the reconstruction of the Spirála Theatre.
Last year, the Exhibition Grounds Prague invested more than 130 million crowns in the upgrade of the area. New sports facilities were created in the lower part, and the area was connected to Stromovka. Renovated restaurants were also opened, the mentioned gastro pavilion was created, and the first phase of the repairs to the Křižík Fountain was completed. This year, in addition to the Křižík Pavilions, the renovation of the Spirála Theatre is also planned, and the completion of the Industrial Palace is set to begin.
