Prague - Ten years ago, the Brno shopping center Galerie Vaňkovka was opened. It was built on the site of the former Vaňkovka engineering factory from the 19th century, covering an area of 28,800 m². It is located on the edge of the historic center of Brno, between the train and bus stations. The new building of Galerie Vaňkovka incorporates two parts of the old factory, and many facades are made of fired bricks typical of old industrial halls.
The Brno Vaňkovka has more than 130 specialized shops, cafes, and restaurants and employs around 1,000 people.
The operator of Galerie Vaňkovka is the German development company ECE, which manages 189 shopping centers in Europe. In Prague, for example, it opened the Arkády Pankrác shopping center in 2008 in collaboration with the developer Unibail-Rodamco.
