Prague - House of Residential Culture, opened on May 29, 1981 in Prague at Pankrác, maintained a unique position in the furniture market for many years. The building, designed by architect Věra Machoninová, was constructed over ten years and was labeled a house of the 21st century upon its opening.
The structure, located in close proximity to the Budějovická metro station, which has colloquially been referred to as "débéká" (and sometimes even "debilák"), has eight floors, but at first glance, due to its design, it appears significantly lower. In the mid-90s, it underwent a drastic reconstruction, during which most of the original interior furnishings were removed, it was renamed to Prior, and incorporated into the namesake retail chain. This also resulted in the loss of its specialized furniture store identity.
Another extensive reconstruction of this architecturally valuable and attractively located shopping center began in 2006. It started with a return to the name DBK (managed by DBK Praha), the creation of a new logo, and gradually transformed the building into a modern shopping gallery.
