Svitavy - The transformation of the old factory in Svitavy into a library and cultural center will cost an additional 20 million crowns, and its completion will be delayed by several months. Instead of this autumn, the center will open no later than March next year. The construction was originally supposed to cost 135 million crowns, partially financed by the European Union, writes Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) in today's supplement on Pardubický kraj. "It has become clear that the construction is more complicated than it originally appeared," said Svitavy's mayor Jiří Brýdl. Builders discovered that the original reinforced concrete structures are in poor condition. In some places, they had to replace them. The extension of the construction will not jeopardize the provision of funding from the EU, said Milan Oblouk, head of the investment department of the City Hall in Svitavy. After the construction is completed, the council must demonstrate to the European Union that the center is full and operational. In addition to the library, there will be space for lectures, balls, and concerts in the former factory. People will find a restaurant, internet café, and spaces for associations there. Philatelists, gardeners, photographers, and the disabled will meet there. A parent center, language courses, and rehearsal rooms for music groups are planned to operate in the center. Svitavy continues to seek organizations that need available spaces, MfD writes.
