Brno - The town hall in the predominantly residential Brno district of Bohunice rejects further construction in its area. The plots where the draft zoning plan allows it will be transformed into green spaces. The comment in this spirit concerns 14 sites, and the district will submit it to the city council, said Deputy Mayor Antonín Crha (KDU-ČSL) to ČTK. The Bohunice town hall cannot enforce its position - the final word will rest with the Brno city council. However, if officials do not sufficiently address its comments beforehand, the town hall may turn to the court. Most Bohunice residents live in panel buildings, yet the district is located not far from the city center, and it takes ten minutes by public transport to get there. The neighborhood also has good access to the motorway network. "Many areas allow for construction, and developers are rushing to us. But we do not want them to further densify the construction," described Crha. They are already reportedly disappointed with the construction of two large buildings at the town hall. Both will be built by investors on Jihlavská Street, the first being a private outpatient clinic, and the second will be a multifunctional building with offices and shops. "There is no way to prevent it," said the deputy mayor, adding that both projects comply with the current zoning plan and have received permits. There is also a community garden colony in part of Bohunice, located around Kejbaly Street. The town hall wants to preserve the gardens. On the contrary, changes can be expected in the several-hectare area of the secondary horticultural school on Lány Street. The South Moravian Region, as the school’s founder, will relocate students and teachers to the school headquarters in Rajhrad near Brno at the end of the school year. The area is being sold for 40 million CZK. Its use will depend on the future owner. Although the current zoning plan does not allow for residential construction, the owner can seek a change. The process takes about two years. A package of changes to the zoning plan is approved by city councilors at almost every meeting. Only the main school building by architect Dušan Jurkovič and the park are not for sale. Both will likely be transferred to Brno by the region. "We would like the school to remain there," hinted the deputy mayor. For example, the private Academy Sting operates in Bohunice, located in a former kindergarten. If it were to move out, the district could again repurpose the kindergarten for its original purpose. Due to the baby boom of recent years, there are few places available in them.
