Rakovník - The Rakovnická Sokolovna could have a new roof in about two years, replacing the current one which is in poor technical condition. The building is a designated historical monument and belongs to the city. The Sokolovna is still used for its original purpose by athletes. The current aluminum roofing will be replaced with copper sheets. The cost estimated by the designer is approximately 20 million crowns, of which up to 16 million crowns could be covered by a grant from the Ministry for Regional Development, said Kateřina Hradilová, spokesperson for the Rakovnik city hall.

In addition to replacing the roofing, the repair will also include the cladding of downspouts and gutters, repairs to the roof trusses, and repairs to the ceiling structures and false ceilings above the large and small halls of the Sokolovna. "A condition for the grant is also the construction of an accessible sanitary facility," Hradilová added.

According to the spokesperson, the criteria for evaluating grant applications have not yet been clearly defined, for example, whether it will depend on the speed of submission or the number of points earned. Before applying for the grant, the city still needs to have the mandatory feasibility study prepared.

The Sokolovna was built between 1912 and 1914 according to the design of architect Otakar Novotný. It is a national cultural monument.
