Říčany - Říčany near Prague are planning a reconstruction of Masaryk Square. According to the city hall, it will be an expensive investment project involving a complete replacement of utility networks and surfaces. The future form of the square will be able to be influenced by the public, said the spokesperson of the city office, Kateřina Lauerová.

The city has already started collecting input from residents for the project, will evaluate it in the fall, and prepare the materials for the announcement of an architectural competition. People can influence, for example, what should and should not be in the square, and how and where traffic and parking should be organized through surveys. The winning architectural design will be known next summer.

According to the city hall, the utility networks in the square are inadequate and outdated. Capacity issues regarding technical security are often encountered when organizing large social events.

The dominant features of Masaryk Square are the originally Gothic Church of St. Peter and Paul, probably from 1270, and the Marian column. The square also houses the town hall, a school, and the building of the former court.
