Prague - The Chamber of Deputies should start dealing with the proposal for a new building law next Thursday. An extraordinary meeting was convened today at the initiative of the members of the strongest movement ANO by the speaker of the lower house, Radek Vondráček (ANO). The government draft is accompanied by the related so-called amendment law before its first reading.

The cabinet expects significant acceleration and simplification of the building process from the new law. Its main principles are, according to earlier statements by the Minister for Regional Development Klára Dostálová (ANO), a single procedure before one building authority, integration of the relevant authorities into the building offices, fixed deadlines, measures against inactivity, or an appeal principle, whereby a superior authority will no longer return the matter for new consideration.

Some opposition members have already called for the proposal to be returned to the comments procedure before it is discussed in the government. They consider it unprepared and lacking in concept, claiming that it will not accelerate the process. The Chamber of Commerce has urged both the government and the opposition to establish a group in the Chamber of Deputies to deal with the law.

Some experts believe that while the building process may be accelerated by the new building law, public interests could be compromised. These include environmental protection, public health protection, and heritage protection.
