A debate has erupted in Brno about the planned underground garages at Zelený trh. A private investor is set to build them, and they will be used by guests of the planned hotel and owners of luxury apartments in the vicinity. However, this private enterprise poses a threat to the historical underground, which is set to be made accessible to the public this spring at the expense of the EU, the Baroque fountain Parnas, and the overall appearance of the square, which will be irreversibly affected by a 17-meter diameter access ramp.

A number of experts have opposed this plan, including the authors of the Regulatory Plan of the City Heritage Reserve of Brno from 1999, architects Josef Němec and Jiří Mikšík, as well as the author of the reconstruction of the Brno underground, Ing. Aleš Svoboda, who points out inaccuracies and errors in the project documentation from the firm Arch.design, which could have catastrophic consequences. Additionally, the underground garages and the monumental ramp significantly disrupt the winning design for the appearance of the square by the RAW studio, which was selected in a invited competition and thoroughly vetted through public debate in 2008.
An initiative against the construction of the garages has arisen on Facebook under the name I disagree with the creation of underground garages at Zelný trh in Brno, which has already gathered 750 supporters within just a week of its existence. Here, the initiators of the dissent also publish the latest facts and planned measures.
