Žatec - The Railway Administration is looking for a contractor for the complete renovation of the train station building in Žatec. The 150-year-old listed building is set to receive a new façade and roof for 90 million crowns, and after the renovation, travelers will have access to modern spaces and barrier-free access. This was reported today by the spokeswoman of the Railway Administration (SŽ), Nela Eberl Friebová.

The National Heritage Institute declared the station a cultural monument in 2020. Therefore, according to Friebová, the appearance of the building will not change significantly even after the renovation. Experts will restore the façade and correct, according to the spokeswoman, inappropriate alterations to the building's appearance. Additionally, the original roof skylights will be restored and non-original annexes will be removed. A complete renovation is planned for the roof, the building envelope, the platform shelter, and publicly accessible areas including restrooms, Friebová indicated.

Barrier-free access from the street will be ensured by an elevator. The renovation will also involve the areas surrounding the train station building. The city hall is gradually modifying the area around the station as well. City spokesman Tomáš Kassal told ČTK that the adjacent Purkyněho Street has been repaired, with costs for replacing the sewer system, road surfaces, and planting trees amounting to approximately ten million crowns. The city is currently preparing, in collaboration with an architect, a proposal for the creation of a park near the station.
