Prague - A new bridge has connected Stromovka and Císařský Island in Prague. Workers built it on the site of the original one, which was demolished last year. The new bridge is already serving motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians, said Tomáš Mrázek, spokesman for the Technical Administration of Communications, today to ČTK.

The bridge lies on the route that Prague residents take for trips to the zoo and botanical garden, and it features a bike path. "Therefore, we changed the parameters of the bridge, which are intended to contribute to greater safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists," said Mrázek.
The roadway and sidewalks have been widened. The bridge is also higher above the water level of the navigation channel. According to Mrázek, its construction cost 35 million crowns.
The original bridge was built in 1913 and was last significantly repaired in 1959. Since the 1990s, according to Mrázek, it had been in poor condition, which was further worsened by the flood in August 2002.
