Pardubice - The future police complex of the Pardubice region may be located in the building of the current district police headquarters on Na Spravedlnosti street in Pardubice. This was proven by a volumetric study commissioned by the region at its own expense. The first deputy governor Roman Línek informed journalists about this today. The Pardubice region is currently under the administration of the East Bohemian police in Hradec Králové and is one of the regions where the structure of the police does not mirror the regional territorial division. The extensive police facility on Na Spravedlnosti currently houses the district police headquarters and the Higher Police School of the Ministry of the Interior. "The regional and district police headquarters, as well as the school, including the parts it has in Opatovice, will fit in there comfortably," said Línek. According to the study by architects Miroslav Řepa and Jan Třeštík, the current building should be increased in height, gaining about one third of its volume. Two new passages into the inner courtyard should be created, the entire building would acquire extensive glass surfaces and would be newly clad. The future appearance may change in the final project, but the size and layout of the interior should remain roughly the same. The study cost the region approximately 700,000 crowns. The police building is 50 years old. It was originally constructed in the 1950s as a regional national committee. The gymnasium in the middle clearly resembles its original purpose, a meeting hall. The building was completed in the early 1960s, but due to changes in regional borders, it began to serve the police. "Renovation is definitely cheaper than building a new one, plus the building already needs some intervention. It is owned by the state, and we believe it is the best solution," said Línek. The location of the regional police complex was agreed upon by representatives of the region, the East Bohemian police administration, and the police school as early as January. The Pardubice region will now negotiate the reconstruction with the Ministry of the Interior, and the headquarters should be established by 2012. Across the street from the police complex, a justice palace is to be constructed in the future, where the regional and district courts, as well as the regional and district public prosecutors' offices, should find their place. The land of the former motor vehicle agency has been promised for purchase by the region and the city of Pardubice for construction.
