Tachov

Tachov - The twelve-thousand-strong Tachov is considering building another assisted living facility. By offering smaller and little apartments to elderly people, the town hall aims to partially address the housing situation in the city. The new residents of the home could free up unused large spaces for younger families. The facility with several dozen so-called sheltered apartments is planned for the Družstevní area, which the city has newly prepared for construction. This was said by Mayor Ladislav Macák.

"We are registering interest not only in plots for family houses but in housing as such. For example, 46 apartments in the assisted living facility we built two years ago are hopelessly taken apart," he stated.
If another similar facility is created, according to Macák, there will be no problem filling it. The advantage for the city in building a new assisted living facility is that the city hall can take care of older citizens. "These people usually no longer need a large apartment, they do not have such high demands; a smaller area with assured care services is sufficient for them," he said. They are relinquishing their large apartments to other interested parties, which helps to stimulate the real estate market.
According to Jana Pavlásková, head of the department of social affairs and health at the town hall, interest in places in the assisted living facility has now increased. "This is because the local guesthouse transformed into a retirement home. New conditions have been set for people," she mentioned. About twenty people in the senior home will now keep 15 percent of their pension; most do not qualify for the state care allowance.
The first assisted living facility was opened by the town hall two years ago. At that time, it was reportedly a problem to fill the apartments. "The residents of Tachov were not very interested; we also took people from the villages. Now the situation is beginning to improve a bit,” said Pavlásková.
In the Družstevní area and the adjacent Třešňovka, the city is preparing the largest construction of family homes and apartments since 1989. The goal of the project is to stabilize the population and retain and attract young people. "Although Tachov has a natural population increase, there has been a long-term decrease of about ten to twenty people a year. The reason is that they are leaving for elsewhere," Macák noted. The city has the territorial plan prepared for up to 15,000 people.
