Telč - Telč is preparing repairs to the Tower of the Holy Spirit in the historic center for next year, as its frame is in poor condition. In addition to the reconstruction of the frame, the city is also planning a new roof and repairs to other parts of the tower for this late Romanesque monument. The project costs around 14 million crowns. The city has a promised European subsidy for it, Telč Mayor Roman Fabeš said today to ČTK.

The town hall aims to complete the "paperwork" for the tower repairs over the winter; they must also select a contractor for this project. The work will be more complicated as a crane of the required size is unlikely to reach the 49-meter-high tower in the historic center, and workers will have to use a helicopter for the roof repairs.

According to available sources, the Tower of the Holy Spirit is the oldest preserved building monument in Telč. Stylistically, it can be classified into the first half of the 13th century. The pseudo-Gothic covering was added after a fire in 1836. During the repairs, a new exhibition will also be created in the tower for visitors, mapping the development of the town. From the oldest historical stages on the ground floor, people will be able to reach the clock mechanism with a view of present-day Telč.

According to the mayor, the city has a promised subsidy for the planned tower repairs from the European IROP program, which will cover 90 percent of eligible costs. The town hall is also set to receive another subsidy from the same program for the construction of a bike path in Lipky, which will also be suitable for inline skating. This construction is expected to start next spring and will cost approximately 19 million crowns.
