Turnov - Turnov in Semily has received its second European grant for a library, the construction of which is set to begin this year. From the Integrated Regional Operational Program (IROP), it will receive funds not only for its construction but also for its equipment. The mayor Tomáš Hocke (Independent Block) announced this to journalists today.
The planned construction of the library is in the phase of creating documentation for the execution of the construction. "We aim to have the documentation ready by the end of May or in June so that we can announce the tender for the construction and start in the fall," Hocke said.
The construction of the new library will cost over one hundred million crowns, of which the city will receive approximately 68 million crowns from IROP. It has also successfully applied for a grant to purchase equipment. It will receive 4.254 million. The total costs for acquiring furniture, IT equipment, and the information system are estimated by the city hall to exceed 5.5 million crowns.
The new building will be constructed because the current facilities on Jeronýmova Street do not meet the library's capacity needs, the hygienic and visitor facilities are insufficient, there is a lack of a community hall, and the building is not barrier-free. The new library will be located a few hundred meters closer to the center, on Skálova Street, between the summer cinema and the house Na Sboře. It will be a four-story building with a terrace and will become part of the area where the summer cinema has been located for half a century, one of the most visited in the Czech Republic. The library building will take over the function of a projection screen. The new library should be operational by 2025 at the latest.
