Frýdlant nad Ostravicí

Frýdlant nad Ostravicí - A group of ten creators from around the world highlighted the possibility of using historical techniques of artistic enamel in architecture, as they exhibited their works today in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí, created during the international symposium Frýdlant Artistic Enamel. Enamel can be used to create beautiful decorations for interiors and exteriors that can last for centuries, said the symposium commissioner Karel Bogár to ČTK.
"We are trying to build on the tradition of factories from the mid-19th century, when many now-forgotten technologies developed in our region. The popularity of enamel is slowly returning; for example, some factories in the Czech Republic have created decorations for their halls and surroundings using enamel," Bogár added.
At the Frýdlant symposium, a group of artists produced over a hundred works in eight days. "This year we had a top lineup; besides the top Czech artists, significant creators from Japan, Germany, France, Austria, and the Netherlands also attended," said Bogár. The collaborative creation was beneficial for the artists. Each of them uses different methods and techniques, allowing them to exchange their ideas and experiences.
The best works will now travel to several exhibitions and will later be shown in the Gallery of Artistic Enamel and Cast Iron in the Frýdlant House of Culture.
The technology of enamel has been known since the second millennium BC from Aegean culture, and for centuries it was used only for making jewelry and decorative items. Enamel has been used industrially since the mid-18th century when iron vessels began to be glazed. Later, enamel was primarily used for surface treatment of kitchenware or informational and advertising signs.
