Prague - The Urban Project of the Year 2024 award was won by the spatial study of the transformation of Bohumínská and Frýdecká streets in Ostrava. At the ceremonial announcement of the results, representatives of the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction (Nadace ABF) announced this tonight, marking the tenth year of the awards presentation. The author of the study is the architectural company AFRY CZ, and the aim of the project was to transform the streets into a functional urban thoroughfare. A total of 15 projects entered the competition, seven of which were from Prague. The organizers also presented five special awards.

According to the designers, the goal of the proposal was to create a sustainable concept that will help Ostrava remain a growing city. It should connect places around the Ostravice River. The streets should also not create barriers between pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. "Linking Moravian and Silesian Ostrava across the Ostravice River and enabling the transformation of the partially disappeared Silesian Ostrava is understood as the main goal of this project. Today, we see a high potential for quality modern housing and recreational activities in Silesian Ostrava,” the architects stated in the printed catalog for the 10th edition of the competitive showcase.

Also nominated for the title of Urban Project of the Year 2024 were, for example, Rohan City in Prague's Karlín and Smíchov City in Prague 5, developed by Sekyra Group. Additionally, the Papírák 2030 project in Liberec and the spatial study Jihlava Buková were also nominated.
