Miroslav (Znojemsko) - In Miroslav in the Znojmo region, people could for the first time view the repaired southeast wing of the castle. The repairs cost 25 million crowns, most of which were covered by a European grant, said Roman Volf (ČSSD), the mayor of Miroslav, to ČTK. According to him, only about a third of the dilapidated complex has been renovated. The site will now be accessible except on Mondays, with exhibitions inside. The town acquired the castle through a gratuitous transfer from the state in 1993. The castle belonged to the Stummer family, Viennese sugar manufacturers, until 1945. During the communist regime, it housed a boarding school. The town hall spent years trying to find an investor to renovate and utilize the building. All negotiations failed, so the town embarked on the restoration of the monument itself, but for a long time it struggled to secure any major grant because the castle is not a cultural monument. Therefore, only smaller repairs were made. "Originally, we didn't even have hundreds of thousands for repairs, so we focused on the appearance, the Gothic portal, and repaired the roof. We could only afford larger repairs now that we have obtained a grant of 21 million crowns from ROP South East," stated Volf. Since the castle has no period furniture, it features exhibitions. In the lower part, there is an exhibition by architect Zdeněk Fránek, complemented by works from sculptor Pavel Krbálek. Visitors can also view a collection of large puzzles themed around Mucha's Slav Epic. A draw for children are creations made from Lego.
