Rožmberk nad Vltavou – In Rožmberk nad Vltavou in the Český Krumlov region, the reconstruction of the noble brewery has begun. The costs for the restoration of the building, which was constructed in the 16th century by the Rožmberks, amount to tens of millions of crowns. In the past, the building also housed a famous hotel, built in the 19th century by the noble Buquoy family. The expected completion of the recently launched project is next year, investor Martin Neudörfl told reporters today.
"Our goal is the complete restoration of beer brewing, the inn, and the famous hotel, including the expansion of production to include a bakery, a chocolate factory, and a distillery, along with the establishment of a central store for regional products. In the renewed production, we want to respect not only modern trends and current demand, especially in the case of sports beers, but also the historical traditions of South Bohemia, with the relationship of the renewed brewery to our region being a defining direction in our philosophy," said Neudörfl.
He added that the proceeds from the sale of beer aim to support the financing of the castle guard in Český Krumlov – the so-called Schwarzenberg Grenadier Guard. It was established by Neudörfl's son, who is also its governor. "For centuries, the Rožmberk brewery supplied its famous white beer not only to the tables of the lords of the Rose and the counts of the Buquoy family but also to the simple inhabitants of South Bohemia. At its inn, Šumava farmers, South Bohemian elite, and national awakeners gathered over Rožmberk beer, and during the First Republic, it became the heart of the cultural life of the former Czech-speaking minority," said Martin Neudörfl Jr.
The city of Rožmberk had previously shown interest in the property where the brewery, hotel, and restaurant are being established. However, high reconstruction costs always deterred the councilors from deciding on the purchase. The brewery could also be obtained from the state through a gratuitous transfer, but that is conditional on the property not having commercial use. The current plans related to the renovation are welcomed by the city of Rožmberk. "This is one of the prominent landmarks of Rožmberk. The city actively collaborated during the project preparation, and Martin Neudörfl has the full support of the city. This is one of the projects that could help extend the strictly summer tourist season also into spring and autumn," concluded Rožmberk Mayor Bohuslav Čtveráček (Rožmberk plus).
