Prague - At the age of 91, writer and editor of children's magazines Dagmar Lhotová Slabá passed away on Wednesday. Her son Petr Slabý informed ČTK today. Dagmar Lhotová, together with her husband Zdeněk Karel Slabý, was the author of comic stories for children about the cat Vavřinec.

Dagmar Lhotová was born on July 22, 1929, in Plzeň. Her father was architect and theatrical artist Karel Lhota, who collaborated on his Plzeň realizations with the famous architect Adolf Loos. He was also involved with him in the creation of the project for the Müller Villa in Prague. Dagmar Lhotová's mother was actress Marie Brožová.

Dagmar Lhotová studied at the Faculty of Education at Charles University and immediately after her studies began working as an editor at the State Publishing House for Children's Books. A few years later, at Mateřídouška, she co-created the legendary Stories of the Cat Vavřinec.

The stories of the somewhat conceited yet enterprising cat, the cunning dog Otylka, the wise goat Spytihněv, and the always dreaming piglet Mojmír were illustrated in comic form by painter Věra Faltová. The comic first reached readers in 1967, thus historically preceding the similarly themed and more famous Čtyřlístek. The popular comic was published for ten years, ending because the Slabý spouses could no longer officially publish.

Dagmar Lhotová's children's books include titles such as Robin, the Dog and Me, The Holidays Are Just Beginning, About the Land There and Elsewhere, Bartolomějs, making her the author of around forty titles in total.

Dagmar Lhotová received various publishing awards, as well as the Muriel comic award and the Golden Ribbon in 2018 for her lifetime contribution to children's literature.
