Olomouc - The Primavesi Villa in Olomouc, which belongs to the gems of Art Nouveau architecture, is receiving a new coat in these days for its hundredth birthday. In addition to the light facade, this year's anniversary is also commemorated by newly released postcards, and a brochure about the history of the monument is being prepared, said the building's owner Pavla Honzíková to ČTK today.

The entire monument will not dress in the light sandy color from its current dark gray. There will not be enough time this year for the part that people can see from Bezručovy Sady. "Along with the new facade, we are also trying to repair the windows; ironwork will need to be completed. Originally, we wanted the villa to have an entirely new facade, but it did not work out. At least part of it will come to life," said Honzíková. According to her, the facade restoration has been planned for several years. However, in 1999, the owner did not reach an agreement with heritage officials and the magistrate, and this year she also had to adjust her ideas about the color to the opinion of the heritage officials. "We wanted a more intense sandy color to be in contrast to the grilles and windows. In the end, however, we conceded," explained Honzíková. According to her, about 500,000 crowns will go to the facade this year. A subsidy of 135,000 crowns was promised by the Ministry of Culture, and another 70,000 crowns by the Olomouc magistrate.
This year, the villa celebrates 100 years since its approval. Craftsmen discovered newspapers from April 1906 in the wall during the current facade restoration. "They were crumpled, but we will try to put them back together. Apparently, even back then, bricklayers stuffed openings with newspapers when they wanted to save on mortar," added Honzíková. According to her, the villa had a light facade in the past as well. The dark coating was allegedly applied only after World War II due to fears of bombing. Its anniversary is also commemorated by two new postcards depicting the interiors and exteriors. People can purchase them at the Primavesi gallery.
"The villa is a magnificent gem of Art Nouveau, which is rarely seen in Europe. It is appropriately integrated into the baroque ensemble of buildings, where it does not disturb at all. Everything there was made to measure and with tremendous taste," said Olomouc historian Milan Tichák to ČTK today.
The Art Nouveau building was constructed between 1905-1906 according to the design of Franz von Krausse and Josef Tölk. It served as the residence of the Primavesi family, Otto and Eugenie, who were closely associated with leading figures of Viennese Secession - sculptor Anton Hanak, painter Gustav Klimt, and architect Josef Hoffmann. In 1926-1927 and 1947, the villa was converted into a sanatorium.
