River Svratka Embankment - Invitation to Public Discussion
The statutory city of Brno, the Brno-střed district, and the organizer of the competition MOBA studio invite you to a public discussion on the future form of the Svratka riverbank in the city center.
The debate will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at 5:00 PM in the auditorium of the Faculty of Architecture at VUT in Brno, Poříčí 5.
Suggestions from the discussion will be incorporated into the assignment of the upcoming international competition for the design of the Brno Svratka riverbank, in the section from the exhibition ground through Poříčí to the railway bridge on Uhelná.
Among the guests will be representatives of the statutory city of Brno, representatives of the Brno-střed district, and the competition organizer MOBA.
In mid-October, the Council of the City of Brno approved the composition of the jury for the open architectural competition for the revitalization of the Svratka riverbank. The jury of the competition, organized by the city according to the conditions of the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA), will have prestigious international participation. Among the independent jurors will be Austrian architect Susan Kraupp and French landscape architect Emmanuel Jalbert. Kraupp is a co-author of the general plan and strategy for the revitalization of the Danube riverbank in Vienna, and Jalbert's studio designed the comprehensive revitalization of the riverbanks of the Rhône in Lyon.
The architectural competition aims to find solutions for the revitalization of the Svratka riverbank in the area approximately from the Brno exhibition ground to the railway bridge on Uhelná street. The task will not only be to design new recreational areas and public spaces but also to sensitively incorporate flood protection elements into the territory. The winning project will serve as the basis for the assignment of project and implementation documentation. The preparation and organizational arrangements for the competition are the responsibility of Studio MOBA based on a selection process, which also participated in organizing the prestigious international urban competition Future of the Center of Brno. The specific assignment for the competition teams will be discussed with the public around mid-November 2016. The announcement of the competition results can be expected at the turn of February and March next year.
