Non-heterosexual (queer) identities are implicitly and explicitly a part of past and contemporary visual creation. They reflect the life experiences of those who could not and were not allowed to speak and write about their otherness. The lecture will present possibilities for queer readings and (self)identification of works from the fields of visual arts, architecture, design, and collecting.

Ladislav Zikmund-Lender (*1985) works as an art historian. He teaches at the Institute of Art History at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and collaborates with the Center for Interdisciplinary Research at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Hradec Králové. Since 2014, he has been a PhD student at UMPRUM in the field of History and Theory of Modern and Contemporary Art. He deals with the history of architecture and design. For the preparation of a book on queer identities in visual art, he received a Fulbright-Masaryk Scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley (2016–2017). He is the author of the exhibitions What a Material: Queer Art from Central Europe (2012) and Spaces of Desire: Is Architecture Sexy? (2016) and the editor of their catalogs. He is the author of the books Three Generations of Architects (2012), Museum Building in Hradec Králové (2013), Jan Kotěra in Hradec (2016), Structure of the City in Green (2016). He edited the books Experimental Housing Estate Invalidovna (2014), Design/Furniture/Interiors (2014), and Architecture of Hradec Králové in the Photographs of Josef Sudek (2014).

The cycle was prepared by Anna Daučíková, moderated by Tomáš Hříbek
