Tomáš Pilař

We cordially invite you to a lecture by Tomáš Pilař from the architectural office Kuba & Pilař architects, who led a guest studio at the Faculty of Art and Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec during the winter semester of 2011. In his lecture, Tomáš Pilař will focus primarily on architectural competitions in which he has achieved success. The lecture will take place on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 6:00 PM in room F12 at Husova Street 75 in Liberec.

The architectural duo Ladislav Kuba and Tomáš Pilař have participated in a number of architectural competitions since 1996, with victories in competitions becoming the primary source of projects for the office. At the beginning of their collaboration stands the small building of the Chapel of Our Lady Queen in Jestřebí. This small construction shifted the perspective on new church buildings and became a great inspiration for many architects. A few years later, the architects reconstructed the town hall in nearby Brtnice. In 2002, their design for the Library of the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University in Brno impressed the jury of the Grand Prix of the Czech Architects Association so much that they received awards in nearly all categories. One of their most recent realizations is the Omega department store in Brno. The Kuba & Pilař studio has succeeded in crossing the borders of their home region: the residential complex Na Krutci in Prague, the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Sports Facilities of the University in Pardubice, or the Residential Building Ostravská Brána in Ostrava.
