Another of the already traditional PechaKucha Night evenings in Plzeň took place this time in the former cinema Hvězda, which reopened to the public for this occasion after seventeen years. During the Friday evening, eleven presenters took turns at the metaphorical lectern, introducing their projects to over five hundred visitors during their 20x20 seconds presentations. Plzeň native Bohdan Bláhovec evaluated the complicated position of a young, beautiful, successful intellectual working in documentary creation as part of his presentation. The creative group Posedlí also presented a light-hearted theoretical concept of perches. Jan Čapek focused on inflatable toys in his presentation, for which he received the Designer of the Year 2013 award at Czech Grand Design. The dancers from Tance Praha took an interesting approach to the 20x20 presentation format, reacting with their movements to the perception of contemporary dance.“We always strive to offer the audience the best and most interesting personalities from the local artistic scene. In selecting presenters, we also do not neglect to seek out forgotten, unused, special places where we hold PechaKucha Night. We will keep the September edition a secret for now, but we will reveal that the November eleventh [pechakucha] will be held in gala at the J. K. Tyl Theatre,” adds Jitka Jirásková, coordinator of Plzeň’s PechaKucha Night. The entire evening was held under the banner of the association k světu., which is the mastermind behind other significant cultural projects in Plzeň. Briefly presented, among other things, was the project Náplavka k světu., within which a festival will take place on the Plzeň embankment from June 1 to 22. At PechaKucha Night, people had the last opportunity to contribute to the walkway for the embankment through the Everfund platform, a project of Plzeň 2015. “Thanks to voluntary financial contributions from the visitors of Friday's [pechakucha], it was even possible to exceed the final required amount of 30,000 CZK! Because of this, we can improve the surface of the central embankment and thus enhance the walks along its entire length,” says the enthusiastic coordinator of the Náplavka k světu project, Irena Velichová. The organizers from the k světu. association expended several weeks of effort clearing the entire cinema hall, so they decided to use this space not just for one evening, but for the whole weekend, during which the cinema was accessible to the general public. Selected documentary films shown at the One World festival were screened, and on Sunday there was a discussion with director, screenwriter, and cameraman Vít Klusák about excerpts from his films.
