Clothing no longer fulfills only functional requirements, but through it, we also express our unique style and creativity. The same is true when arranging our dream homes. Thanks to the active collaboration of manufacturers with designers, purely practical items can be transformed into original artistic pieces. The company VELUX and the internationally renowned design duo Scholten & Baijings have prepared a collection of six unique designs of fabric roller blinds for roof windows. Along with this collection, VELUX is also introducing its entirely new product category: Roman blinds for roof windows.
Scholten & Baijings
Four years ago, the world-renowned designer Karim Rashid created a collection of colorful roller blinds for VELUX, which enriched the category of window accessories with a design element. Building on this previous experience, VELUX continues this year with an original Color Collection of roller blinds for roof windows, created in collaboration with the Dutch design duo Scholten & Baijings. This collection has also formed the basis for a new product category of VELUX, Roman blinds for roof windows.
Light effects, bright colors, and richly decorated details – this is the signature of the designers Scholten & Baijings, which now becomes a fundamental element of the entire Color Collection Scholten & Baijings. Each roller blind is a functional design piece that can be used in a simple yet exceptional way as a stylish accessory for the attic.
Flexible design Unlike other roller blinds for roof windows, the Roman blinds from the Color Collection Scholten & Baijings are made from vibrant, delicate fabric with the option of flexible placement and retraction – either at the top, bottom, or middle of the window. The choice is yours, and the effect will be impressive in any case. Inspired by nature and individually cut We use roller blinds to adjust the intensity of light entering the interior. Nevertheless, daylight is also very important to us, and the natural atmosphere it can create in a room is unmatched by artificial lighting. Throughout the day, light changes and plays with various shapes, tones, and colors. It is this transformation that inspired the creators of the new collection, the designers Scholten & Baijings, who designed six patterns: three colorful styles with completely blackout fabric and three with shading fabric that adjusts the intensity of light entering the interior. Thanks to the translucent material, the roller blinds also create interesting patterns not only on the walls of your attic.
“The Color Collection Scholten & Baijings is inspired by the unique shades of light throughout the day. Each roller blind is a completely unique design piece, as all the fabrics are cut individually. You will not find two identical roller blinds, even all the patterns behave and look differently depending on how they are currently arranged on the window,” explain Scholten & Baijings.
For those who cannot decide on one pattern, the design of the Roman blinds from the Color Collection Scholten & Baijings offers the perfect solution. The existing fabric can be very easily “detached” from the window’s guiding rails and immediately replaced with another fabric. Whenever you feel like a change, simply choose a different design.
Innovations are the future The introduction of new design roller blinds in collaboration with one of the most successful design studios today aligns with the overall vision of VELUX. “For VELUX, as a market leader, it is important to be innovative, especially in the areas of quality and design. By presenting the Color Collection Scholten & Baijings, we have managed to offer two novelties in one. In the area of roller blinds, we present fine fabrics, thereby repeatedly allowing changes in the window's appearance, and by collaborating with Scholten & Baijings, we support the unique design we want to incorporate into our products,” explains Jaroslava Gregorová, marketing manager of VELUX Czech Republic, s.r.o. Briefly about the duo Scholten & Baijings: • Created in 2000 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, founders Stefane Scholten (1972) and Carole Baijings (1973) • Occupy a unique position in the world of Dutch product design • Excel in the balance between design and functionality • Have worked for companies and institutions worldwide, such as the Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum or HAY • Have received several nominations and design awards from Dutch Design Awards and Wallpaper Design Awards
