The Rigips division of the Saint-Gobain Group has started to offer special Eurocoustic ceiling tiles in the Czech Republic. These allow for a significant reduction in noise levels caused by sound reflection in public spaces. The tiles absorb sound reflected from walls, floors, and objects, thereby improving the intelligibility of spoken words. They find applications in schools, theaters, restaurants, public institutions, and healthcare. Thanks to a special treatment, they also improve lighting conditions and, while maintaining an adequate level of brightness, allow for a reduction in the intensity of artificial lighting in rooms.
The tiles, made from mineral stone wool, a lightweight porous material ensuring high sound absorption, will be shipped to the Czech Republic from France. “Their applications will be found wherever people need to understand each other well and where larger groups gather simultaneously. This includes offices, schools, hospitals, shops, restaurants, sports facilities, and hotels,” explains Rigips product manager Vojtěch Zítek.
Ceiling tiles are inserted into a suspended grid on the ceiling, allowing for the coverage of unsightly installations or technical equipment. Moreover, due to their simple installation, they provide easy access to the space above.
Eurocoustic tiles will be available in several variants. The basic, economical type Minerval will be available with a vertical edge for a visible grid and with a design-interesting recessed edge for a subtle grid. The higher type Tonga will offer not only better acoustic properties but also better room illumination. “Tonga tiles pleasantly diffuse light and do not create sharp reflections. As a result, they bring pleasant lighting comfort to the room and reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day by up to 11%,” explains Vojtěch Zítek.
“The matte surface plays a significant role, especially in the black variant Tonga Noir, which is suitable for cinemas or concert halls,” says Vojtěch Zítek. A special variant is the Tonga Ultra Clean ceiling designed for rooms with high hygiene requirements, such as hospital rooms or operating theaters, but also for areas with delicate manufacturing processes. Initially, the tiles will be available in black and white variants; next year, Rigips will also offer colorful variants and design prints.
